Update: After this story ran, Martin Kabrhel defeated Alexander Yen heads-up to win the Mini Main Event for $843,140, his fourth bracelet and first in Las Vegas.

Love him or despise his antics, Martin Kabrhel is closing in on first place in the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Player of the Year race.

The Czech businessman, at the time of publishing, had a large chip lead in Event #75: $1,000 Mini Main Event with just four players remaining. He entered the day second in chips with five players left. But he's taken over the final table, at least for the time being, in a tournament that attracted 10,794 entrants.

Kabrhel has locked up his fourth final table appearance at the 2025 WSOP, and he's guaranteed a minimum payout of $323,460. But he's chasing his first bracelet of the summer — fourth in his career — and the $843,140 first-place prize. He's also attempting to overtake Benny Glaser atop the WSOP Player of the Year standings.

Glaser has won three bracelets this year, and one more would be a single-series record. He's currently sitting on 3,245.51 points, just above Scott Bohlman (3,205.83). Joao Vieira is in third place (2,834.16), followed closely by Blaz Zerjav (2,708.53).

Kabrhel is way back in 23rd place with 1,991.32 points. But, per the WSOP's POY calculator, he would earn 1,325 points for winning the Mini Main Event. That would put him at approximately 3,316 points, surpassing Glaser's lead.

Kabrhel, often criticized for excessive tanking and constant speech play, held a 3-1 chip lead four-handed ahead of Vadzim Lipauka, at the time of publishing.
