You can learn a lot about other players' hands and intentions by watching which cards they pick up or discard. An opponent may be trying to finish a run in a certain suit if, for instance, they routinely pick up carof apkds from that suit. It could be prudent in these situations to completely refrain from discarding cards from that suit. When discarding, players should also think about the makeup of their own hand; discarding high-point cards early on can reduce possible losses in the event that another player goes out unexpectedly. Jokers are extremely powerful tools in Rummy because they are wild cards that can represent any card in melds.
