Each player is dealt a certain number of cards at the start of the game, usually 13, with the remaining cards making up the draw pile. Players alternately draw cards from the discard or draw piles in an effort to create sets and sequences—valid card combinations. A sequence consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, whereas a valid set consists of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits.
