Depending on the variation being played, each player usually receives a certain number of cards at the start of the game. One card is dealt face-up to begin the discard pile, and the ot2 pattiher cards form a draw pile. Players alternately draw from the discard or draw piles in an effort to create better hands by combining legal combinations. Until a single player successfully melds every card in their deck, the round is over. While there are some variations in scoring, players typically receive points for the cards that remain in their opponents' hands.
